И вот это тоже супер: "По известной фразе, приписываемой обычно Оскару Уайльду, джентльмен - это тот, кто никогда не оскорбит ближнего ненамеренно", я тогда и в самом деле леди (хотя, если честно, случалось мне обидеть человека случайно, но это очень, очень редкий случай!).

Разумеется, это известнейшая цитата из "Левиафана" Гоббса, описывающая "естественное" (до-политическое) состояние человека: "and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" - "и жизнь человеческая (в этом состоянии) одинокая, бедная, гадкая, грубая и короткая". Nasty, brutish and short - это такой английский аналог нашего "обло, озорно и лаяй", фразу опознают все, кто в школе учился. Применительно к человеку, понятно, short обозначает не краткий (срок жизни), а низкорослый. Но, объяснил Обама, не такой уж и гадкий.
